Triassicpark Steinplatte
Experience the underwater world on the Steinplatte, a former coral reef from the Triassic period.
Since summer 2008, visitors to the Steinplatte plateau have been taken on a journey back in time to prehistoric times. Over 200 million years ago, during the Triassic period, a coral reef existed where people now stand at an altitude of almost 1,900 meters.
Journey into prehistoric times
In an interactive exhibition covering approximately 400 m², visitors have the opportunity to "travel" to a fascinating and long-gone world. The first part of the exhibition transports visitors to a prehistoric underwater landscape.
In this "underwater area," visitors have the opportunity to learn about long-extinct marine reptiles and numerous other prehistoric creatures that once inhabited the Steinplatte region. Interactive exhibits and state-of-the-art multimedia technology bring this fascinating topic to life for visitors in a playful way.

Time travel & explorer's world
Visitors embark on a journey through time, traveling from the depths of the ancient Tethys Ocean up through a lagoon to the subsequent "research camp." There, curious and knowledge-hungry individuals can step into the role of an archaeologist, try out various exciting scientific activities, and thus become real researchers.
The outdoor area features a 210 m² "mini sea" surrounded by the highest sandy beach in the Alps, the approximately 1,400 m² "Triassic Beach." Here, young visitors can romp in and around the water with marine reptiles, while adults can relax on the beach and enjoy the magnificent views. Children can also participate in an "excavation" to search for hidden treasures in the earth.
Discover the Triassic Trail
Following the "Triassic Beach," visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the former coral reef and its inhabitants on the "Triassic Trail." This themed trail to the summit and back features numerous interactive and engaging stations that explain the formation of the Steinplatte plateau. The highlight is a huge fossilized coral reef. The Triassic Park on the Steinplatte plateau in Waidring is open from July to September and offers free admission. Fun and games are guaranteed, ensuring an exciting visit to the Steinplatte for the whole family. Grossglockner High Alpine Road
At 3,798 meters, the Grossglockner is not only Austria's highest mountain, but also one of the highest peaks in the Alps. A popular destination for day trips, it represents for many the epitome of an impressive natural experience: here, one can feel the scale and power of nature, and succumb to the fascination of the eternal ice and the primal force of the natural world.
Mountain dramas and summit storms
On July 26, 1800, a 62-member expedition set off for the summit, which, thanks to perfect weather conditions, was reached the following day. Seventy-six years later, a daring but successful expedition gave its name to what is probably Austria's most famous couloir. Together with Margrave Alfred Pallavicini, three mountain guides cut more than 2,500 steps into the ice of the 55° steep northeast couloir. The ascent was successful and has been known as the Pallavicini Couloir ever since. Twenty-three years later, the namesake of this couloir met his death on the Grossglockner.

The Krimml Waterfalls
Europe's highest waterfalls, with a total drop of 390 meters, are a symbol of all the natural beauty in the Hohe Tauern National Park. For over 100 years, the waterfall trail has led nature enthusiasts up close to this natural spectacle, offering numerous viewpoints, bridges, and platforms.
Healing effect
The fine mist produced by the waterfalls' unique microclimate is 200 times finer than that of conventional asthma inhalers. The force of the impact, due to the extreme height of the falls, creates a fine mist that has a healing effect on both lung patients and allergy sufferers.
Historic hiking trail
The path along the waterfalls was already used as a pack trail in the High Middle Ages. The Tauernhaus was first documented in 1389. During the Second World War, the hut, situated at an altitude of 1,631 meters, provided shelter for more than 5,000 Jews fleeing to Italy via the Krimml Tauern pass.

Slowly and deliberately
Around 12,000 to 14,000 years ago, when the glacial ice of recent years had melted, the Ödenbach stream began to carve its way into the hard rock (averaging 6 mm per year). Today, the gorge is already 400 m long, 80 m deep, up to 6 m wide at the top, and 80 cm narrow at the bottom. A total of 51 walkways and 35 staircases with 373 steps have been built into the gorge.

Flora and fauna
The Seisenberg Gorge is a gateway to another world, the Weißbach Nature Park. With a 1,300-meter difference in altitude, you and your children can discover various gentian species, orchids, silver thistles, or even chamois blossoms. The wildlife also has much to offer.
